Leeds have pulled off the loan signing of Modou Barrow leaving Newcastle high and dry in their hunt to bring in a winger.

Swansea’s official website announced the Leeds deal for the winger who was wanted by both of the Championship promotion hopefuls.

Earlier in the evening Newcastle’s hopes of signing Andros Townsend were ended when Sam Allardyce named the winger among his substitutes for the match Bournemouth.

That twist has certainly given Leeds a boost in the battle for an automatic promotion place with Garry Monk strengthening his squad while Rafa Benitez has been frustrated at almost every turn.

Barrow has started 12 of Swansea’s Premier League matches and will go straight into the Leeds side as Monk attempts to take the Yorkshire side back into the top flight in his first season in charge

Monk knows all about Barrow having worked with him as a coach and also as manager with Swansea.
