Championship outfit Leeds United have suffered a setback in their quest to re-sign Alfonso Pedraza this summer, according to reports in Spain (via Sport Witness).

The 21-year-old winger spent the second half of the season on loan at Elland Road, making 14 Championship appearances and netting just the one goal as Garry Monk’s men fell short in their quest for a play-off place, finishing five points adrift in seventh.

Yet their desire to bring Pedraza back to Yorkshire next term appears to have suffered a blow, with reports in Spain suggesting that parent club Villarreal are hoping to loan him out to fellow La Liga clubs, as opposed to the Championship outfit.

This will surely be frustrating for Leeds boss Monk, who would have been looking to strengthen his side following their much-improved season in the second tier, even if it ended in disappointment by missing out on the top six.

And Pedraza, who made his way up through the youth ranks at Villarreal, playing for their B and C teams prior to making his senior debut for the La Liga outfit in 2015, showed glimpses of promise during his time in England, and would certainly have bolstered Monk’s attacking options.

However, it looks increasingly unlikely that the Spaniard will be returning to Leeds next season.
