Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham saw their Premier League title challenge take a huge dent last weekend, but they will at least finish above Arsenal this season.

The Gunners have always placed above their North London rivals under manager Arsene Wenger, but Spurs’ 2-0 win over their bitter rivals back on April 30 put them 17 points clear of Wenger’s men just six games left for Arsenal to play.

And although both sides still have much to play for between now and the end of the season, they are sure to be on alert following recent news that Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is hoping the Foxes will allow him to leave this summer.

The 26-year-old was absolutely outstanding in helping Claudio Ranieri’s men win the Premier League title last season, scoring 17 goals and laying on 11 assists to win the PFA Player of the Year award, and indeed help the Foxes finish ten points clear of Wenger’s Gunners in second.

And although Mahrez was a man in-demand last summer, the Algeria international pledged his immediate future to the Midlands outfit, but part of that agreement was that he could be allowed to leave this summer if he so wishes.

And he reportedly is hoping that will happen after an underwhelming campaign for the champions, in which time he has bagged just six Premier League goals, and helped Craig Shakespeare’s side to ninth place in the division.

This news is sure to interest some of Europe’s biggest clubs and, with both Arsenal and Tottenham having shown previous interest in the winger, they may well do so again this summer.
