Premier League champions Leicester City will face Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Craig Shakespeare’s side produced a sensational performance to knock La Liga title hopefuls Sevilla out of the competition at the last 16 stage, overturning a 2-1 first leg deficit to win 2-0 at the King Power Stadium.
And their reward is a mouth-watering encounter with Diego Simeone’s Atletico, who won their group which consisted of Bayern Munich, and then got past Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 on aggregate in the previous round.
The Spanish side, finalists in both 2014 and 2016, are currently fourth in La Liga, five points behind Sevilla, and have won three of their four meetings with Leicester down the years, including their most recent clash in the UEFA Cup first round back in 1997, where they beat the Foxes 4-1 on aggregate.
Clearly, Shakespeare’s men will be relishing an opportunity to beat one of the favourites for the Champions League in the next round, and many Leicester supporters took to Twitter immediately after the draw to express their delight at facing Simeone’s side in the next round…
