Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a £38m deal for Sweden international defender Victor Lindelöf.
The Premier League side, who head into Christmas sixth in the English top-flight table after recording three successive league wins, including last Saturday’s 2-0 victory at West Brom, have been heavily linked with a move for the Benfica centre-half during next month’s transfer window.
The 22-year-old, who has 11 international caps for his country and featured for Sweden at this summer’s European Championships, has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Liga NOS outfit so far this season.
However Lindelöf, who has been earmarked as Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho’s top transfer target in the New Year, is set to become United’s only January addition.
Mourinho told Sky Sports, “If we buy a player we buy a player, we’re not buying two, three or four.
“If we open the door for someone to leave it’s not because we push him, it’s because he really wants to leave.
“But for me, I am more than happy to keep the players.”
