Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that the club are already busy working on potential summer deals in a bid to reinforce his squad at Anfield, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds boss didn’t make any signings in January despite his side’s struggles on the pitch, which has seen them win just two of their 11 games in 2017.
It’s a run that has seen them fell out of Premier League title contention, knocked out of both cups, and indeed put their place in the top four in jeopardy, but it appears that Klopp is already planning for next season, especially with it likely that his side will be participating in Europe next term.
He said: ‘We are in talks with different people – players, agents, all that stuff.
‘Not a lot of decisions have been already made at this point. Why should they at this stage? But we are on the way. At the end I’m sure we will have a really good squad.
‘We already have a good squad and a few more good players will make it even better. There’s a good base.’
It is sure to be music to the ears of Liverpool fans who have seen their team struggle even with the demands of domestic cup competitions since the turn of the year, so if they do indeed secure European football for next term, they will quite simply have to strengthen the squad in the summer.
The Reds are fifth in the Premier League having won 14 of their 25 league games this term, and although they are currently out of the top four, no European or domestic cup participation will certainly help their chances of returning to the Champions League after a two-year absence.
