England manager Gareth Southgate will name his provisional squad for this summer’s European Championships on Tuesday.

The former Middlesbrough boss faces a number of selection headaches ahead of the tournament in Germany, but the announcement on Tuesday will provide significant clues as to who will be included in the final 26-man squad.

While several players are almost certain to be involved, there are a number of areas on the pitch that remain uncertain and several stars will therefore be hoping to be given a chance.

Crystal Palace trio Eberechi Eze, Tyrick Mitchell and Adam Wharton have all been touted as possible wildcard inclusions, while Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon will hope to be included after an outstanding individual season.

The ex-Everton man has scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions so far this season, and The Athletic claims that he is a target for both Manchester City and Liverpool.

Gordon has been tipped for a place in the England squad this summer

It is claimed that both City and Liverpool ‘really like’ the Englishman, however they are not currently likely to move for the player this summer as the Magpies will undoubtedly demand a substantial fee to let him leave.

Gordon, 23, joined Newcastle from Everton in January last year and has since made 64 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The winger signed a relatively short-term contract with the Magpies when he moved to St. James’ Park last year, with the deal set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season.

With that in mind, Newcastle have no plans to part ways with Gordon this summer and he is therefore very likely to stay put in the North East.

Gordon’s impressive form for his club side earned him a first senior England call-up in March this year.
