Manchester City lost ground on Premier League leaders Liverpool as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea on Sunday.

With the Reds having beaten Brentford 4-1 to extend their advantage at the top, City welcomed the Blues to The Etihad knowing that victory would keep them within touching distance, with a game in hand.

Former City stay Raheem Sterling put Chelsea ahead, though, and although Rodri drew the hosts level late on, Pep Guardiola’s side were unable to find a winner and now sit four points behind Jurgen Klopp’s men.

It appears too that the two sides could be set to battle it out off the pitch.

As per The Daily Star, both City and Liverpool had scouts in attendance at Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-0 victory over Bundesliga title rivals Bayern Munich last weekend.

The report claims that the two Premier League sides had representatives in attendance to watch Bayer star Florian Wirtz, and Bayern’s Jamal Musiala.

Musiala is of interest to both Liverpool and Man City

Both players are regarded not only as two of the best talents in Germany, but also as two of the best young players in Europe at present.

Liverpool had previously been regarded as frontrunners in the race to sign both players, but the report claims that City’s attendance at last week’s match suggests that the Reds will have plenty of competition to sign either player.

Musiala, 20, joined the German side from Chelsea’s youth academy back in 2019 and has since made 150 appearances for the club across all competitions at senior level, scoring 38 goals and providing 26 assists.

Wirtz, meanwhile, has been a regular for Leverkusen since joining the club from fellow German side Koln in 2020.

The midfielder has been particularly impressive this term, scoring five times and registering nine assists to help Xabi Alonso’s side sit top of the Bundesliga table after 22 matches.
