Liverpool will be hoping to keep alive their slim hopes of finishing in the top four when they welcome Fulham to Anfield on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side ensured they still have an outside chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League thanks to a thrilling 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.

Diogo Jota’s late winner moved The Reds above Spurs and up to fifth in the Premier League table, although they are still seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United at present.

Now, it appears that Liverpool could be set to battle it out with United for one of the Premier League’s most in-form midfielders.

According to Football Insider, both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in Wolves star Matheus Nunes.

The report claims that both clubs are keen on the midfielder, putting Wolves in a commanding position to demand a significant fee for the player.

Nunes, 24, joined Wolves from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon last summer and has been in sensational form during his first season in England.

Nunes has been in fine form for Wolves this season

So far, the midfielder has made 35 appearances across all competitions, but it appears increasingly likely that he could leave Molineux during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Liverpool are set to lose Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner when their contracts expire this summer, and the report claims that they could look to Nunes as they search for midfield reinforcements.

When joining Wolves, Nunes signed a five-year contract that did originally include a release clause, but the report claims that it has since been removed.

Wolves would reportedly be willing to allow Nunes to leave for a fee of around £50 million, which could mark a club-record fee if they were to achieve it.

Newcastle United and La Liga leaders Barcelona are also said to have shown an interest in Nunes, who could spark a bidding war this summer.
