Liverpool will look to take a step closer to the Premier League title when they face Sheffield United on Thursday evening.

The Reds moved top of the standings with victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, before second-placed Arsenal drew 0-0 with third-placed Liverpool.

Manager Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to guide his Liverpool side to a second Premier League title during his final season in charge, with the German set to depart Anfield this summer.

In the meantime, it appears that the Reds are in the race to sign a Bundesliga star.

According to Football Insider, both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong.

The Dutchman has been in sensational form for the Bundesliga leaders this season, and it also said to have attracted interest from Arsenal.

In total the two-time Netherlands international has scored 11 goals and provided the same number of assists in 34 games across all competitions, thriving in an advanced role.

Frimpong’s sensational form has helped Xabi Alonso’s side establish a 13-point advantage over reigning champions Bayern Munich at the top of the German top flight table.

Despite his importance to Leverkusen, the wing-back is set to be available at a cut-price this summer, with his current contract including a £35 million release clause.

If the Dutchman does leave his current club, his former side Celtic could be due for a windfall as his move to Germany in 2021 included a sell-on clause.

In total, Frimpong has played 129 times for Leverkusen across all competitions, and he is set to be part of the club’s first ever Bundesliga triumph under Alonso’s stewardship.

The player’s current contract is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but the report claims that both United and Liverpool view the chance to sign him for £35 million as a ‘bargain’.
