Manchester City will be hoping to continue their perfect start to the new Premier League season when they face West Ham United on Saturday.

The reigning champions have started the new campaign in fine form, winning all four of their matches so far to sit top of the table.

City boss Pep Guardiola will be wary of the threat posed by the Hammers, though, as David Moyes’ side have also started the new campaign impressively, beating Chelsea, Brighton and Hove Albion and Luton Town.

The game could also provide Guardiola with the opportunity to watch one of his top targets in action, reports suggest.

As per The Sun, City are interested in West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd and could make a move to sign the player next summer.

The report claims that both City and Liverpool are monitoring the Morocco international, who has impressed since joining the Hammers from French side Rennes last summer.

Aguerd has emerged as a target for both Manchester City and Liverpool

Aguerd, 27, made 30 appearances across all competitions during his debut season in the capital, and scored during West Ham’s 3-1 win over Chelsea last month, before being sent off in the second half.

The Moroccan is contracted to the East London outfit until the summer of 2027, which puts West Ham under very little pressure to sell.

Liverpool boss Klopp is said to be plotting a defensive overhaul next summer having successfully rebuilt his midfield during the recent transfer window.

Current Reds centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are aged 30 and 32 respectively, while Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate have both struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

It is also claimed that, while City are interested in the defender, their need for defensive reinforcements is less pressing following the signings of both Manuel Akanji and Josko Gvardiol since last summer.
