Liverpool begin a huge fortnight of football across a number of competitions on Tuesday evening, with a crucial Champions League round of 16 tie against Benfica.

Following that, the Reds face Manchester City in a potentially title-deciding Premier League fixture, before a second leg against Benfica at Anfield.

Following all of that, Liverpool once again meet Pep Guardiola’s side, as they face off in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

With an unprecedented quadruple still on the cards for Liverpool, the next two weeks will undoubtedly go a long way to wards deciding exactly how successful this season proves to be for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

While the German focuses his attention on tackling the Reds’ daunting run of fixtures, it appears that the club have received bad news from elsewhere.

ESPN is reporting that both Liverpool and Manchester United have been told that Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo will snub possible moves away from Spain.

Araujo will not be leaving Barcelona this summer

According to the reports, the centre-back will rebuff interest from the Premier League duo, instead opting to sign a contract extension with the Catalan giants.

Both Liverpool and United are believed to hold an interest in signing the player, and would have tabled a more lucrative offer than his current employers are willing to offer.

The 23-year-old has impressed for Barca in recent seasons, and has so far made 34 appearances across all competitions this term.

The Red Devils are believed to be in the market for a central defender as a result of the underwhelming performances of their current backline.

The likes of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have failed to impress of late, and Victor Lindelof has done little to appease supporters’ nerves when called upon.

Araujo, a full Uruguay international, has also been linked with teams in France and Italy.
