Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp aims dig at Chelsea’s spending this summer, when discussing potential transfers, with Servus TV

Chelsea’s summer spending spree has been highly reported, with Blues boss Frank Lampard enjoying a remarkable transfer window with a number of big signings.

Premier League champions Liverpool on the other hand have been relatively quiet, but according to reports in Germany are pushing to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

Chelsea boss Lampard has enjoyed an incredible summer transfer window.

The German reports suggest the Reds will step up their efforts to sign the 29-year-old in the coming days. The uber-talented Spaniard has just one year left on his contract with Bayern and the European champions are demanding a €30 million (£26.8m) fee for the midfielder.

Liverpool boss Klopp took the opportunity to take a tongue-in-cheek dig at Chelsea though.

He said:  “There are a lot of interesting players out there but if someone is interesting for us I can’t say right now.

“Due to Covid-19 you have to think five times about what you can and what you can’t do.

“We always have to pay attention to the financial aspect. We don’t know how much money will come in.

Adding: “Nobody knows but it seems like some other teams have a more positive outlook on the future… if you look at Chelsea for example [laughs].

“But I am very happy with my team right now. If something transfer related will happen we have to see.”
