Liverpool boss Arne Slot will already be looking ahead to next weekend’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.

The Reds currently sit top of the table after seven matches, with reigning champions Manchester City and title chasers Arsenal just a single point behind.

Chelsea will likely provide a tough test for the Merseyside outfit, though, with Enzo Maresca’s side having started the new campaign strongly.

Meanwhile, it appears that Liverpool are interested in a former Manchester United player.

As per AS via The Sun, Liverpool are monitoring Benfica defender Alvaro Carreras, just months after the left-back departed Manchester United.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Benfica, before making his move permanent over the summer for a fee of £5 million.

Carreras left Manchester United over the summer

Carreras has made an impressive start to the new season in Portugal, and the report suggests that his impressive displays have attracted interest from the Reds.

The defender failed to make a single senior appearance for the Red Devils during his time in England, but he has now played 25 times for Benfica and has impressed in Lisbon.

Previously, the Spaniard had spent time on loan at Spanish side Granada and Football League outfit Preston North End.

He was a regular for United at several youth levels, and was named as an unused substitute for a number of Premier League games.

Carreras’ contract with Benfica is set to run until 2029 and, while it is believed to include a release clause, it is currently unclear how much the clause is.

Liverpool’s current first choice left-back, Andy Robertson, is currently in the final two years of his contract, and it appears that the Reds are on the hunt for other options in that position.
