Liverpool boss Arne Slot will take charge of his side in the Carabao Cup for the first time on Wednesday when they host West Ham United in the third round.

The Merseyside outfit are currently the holders of the cup after beating Chelsea in last year’s final, and Slot will see the competition as a good opportunity to lift some silverware this term.

The Hammers will arrive at Anfield to face a Liverpool side that have won five of their six matches across all competitions so far this season, while West Ham have lost three times already.

In the meantime, Liverpool are reportedly chasing three players from the same Bundesliga club.

As per CaughtOffside, the Reds are interested in Bayer Leverkusen stars Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Exequiel Palacios.

The trio all played regularly for Xabi Alonso’s side last season as the completed a league and cup double, finishing the Bundesliga season undefeated.

Wirtz is a target for several European clubs including Liverpool

It is claimed that attacking midfielder Wirtz, 21, is attracting interest from huge European clubs including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but the player himself is open to the idea of a move to the Premier League.

The Germany international has an impressive tally of 98 combined goals and assists in just 147 games for Leverkusen at senior level.

Wing-back Frimpong is also of interest to Liverpool and has a release clause of just £34 million in his current contract, although the Dutchman is also a target for rivals Manchester United.

The 23-year-old is a former Manchester City youth team player and joined Leverkusen from Scottish champions Celtic three years ago.

Palacios, meanwhile, is said to be a target for both Arsenal and Chelsea as well as Liverpool, although all three clubs are wary of his poor injury record.

The defensive midfielder – who was part of the Argentina squad that won the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 – joined Leverkusen from River Plate in 2020 and has since made more than 120 appearances for his current side.

Leverkusen are said to value the Argentine midfielder at around £50 million.
