Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Europa League were dealt a huge blow on Thursday as they lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

The Reds were firm favourites for the game, but fell behind when former West Ham United man Gianluca Scamacca’s tame shot found its way past Caoimhin Kelleher.

The striker then doubled the Italian side’s lead after the break, before Mario Pasalic added a third late on to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side with plenty to do in the second leg.

Liverpool will now turn their attention to the Premier League, where they currently sit second – level on points with leaders Arsenal.

It has been widely reported of late that Liverpool are hoping Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim will replace Klopp when he departs Anfield this summer, but it now appears that they could also be chasing two of his current players.

As per Football Insider, Liverpool are interested in both Marcus Edwards and Goncalo Inacio.

Edwards is said to be of interest to Liverpool

The report claims that both Sporting stars are of interest to the Premier League side, and could follow Amorim to Merseyside if he succeeds Klopp.

25-year-old winger Edwards spent time at Tottenham Hotspur as a youngster and has been impressive since joining Sporting in 2022.

He has played 106 times across all competitions, scoring 21 goals and providing 25 assists.

Inaco, meanwhile, has established himself as one of the best central defenders in the Portuguese top flight over the past couple of seasons.

The defender has made more than 160 appearances for his boyhood club having graduated through their academy, but his impressive showings have attracted interest from elsewhere.

It is claimed that Amorim could look to bring players with him if he does swap Lisbon for Liverpool, and Edwards and Inacio could be the most likely candidates to follow him.
