As they come to terms with the Virgil van Dijk transfer saga Southampton fans are in for a case of deja vu.

According to a report in The Sun Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are all keen to sign left-back Ryan Bertrand who apparently is looking to follow the Dutchman out of St Mary’s.

After the claims about an illegal approach for Van Dijk, Liverpool can almost be discounted from signing Bertrand but the interest of Manchester City and his former club Chelsea will be harder to resist.

With three major clubs all struggling to find a left-back Bertrand is suddenly flavour of the month two years after quitting Stamford Bridge for Saints in a £10m deal.

Despite their best efforts to shed the image of being a selling club it seems certain that two key defenders will depart this summer with Claude Puel likely to be joining them on the way out.
