Liverpool have completed the signing of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from La Liga outfit Valencia.

The Reds confirmed on Tuesday evening that the ‘keeper had finalised the move, subject to a work permit and international clearance.

He will, however, stay put at Spanish side Valencia for the remainder of the current campaign, before moving to Anfield ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old joined Valencia on loan from Georgian club Dinamo Tbilisi back in 2021, before making the move permanent in January 2022.

In total he has played 102 times for the club across all competitions, keeping 31 clean sheets and conceding 117 times.

Mamardashvili was one of the stars of the Euros this summer

The Georgian has been capped 21 times by his country at senior level and was particularly impressive at the European Championships in Germany earlier this summer, putting in a string of impressive displays to help Georgia reach the last 16.

During the group stage he made a total of 21 saves, a joint-record for a goalkeeper in the tournament’s history.

Mamardashvili will be a welcome addition to the Liverpool squad, with the Reds having already lost veteran ‘keeper Adrian earlier this summer.

He becomes Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, with the Reds until now having been the only Premier League side that were yet to make a single signing during the current transfer window.

The Spaniard’s contract had expired and the ex-West Ham United man rejected a new offer to stay on Merseyside and has instead joined Spanish side Real Betis.

Fellow goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has also been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield in recent months, although the Irishman remains part of Slot’s squad at present.
