Chelsea sacked manager Graham Potter on Sunday following a disastrous 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have endured a disappointing performance in the Premier League this season and currently find themselves 11th in the table.

Potter was under huge pressure following a run of just three wins in 17 matches across all competitions, but he did briefly look to have turned things around when The Blues won three consecutive games at the start of March.

Those in charge of the club have run out of patience, though, and now find themselves looking for a new manager for the second time in just seven months.

In the meantime, it appears that Chelsea may face a battle to keep hold of one of their stars.

According to The Independent, Liverpool are interested in Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher.

The report claims that The Reds have identified the England international as a strong candidate to bolster their midfield this summer.

Gallagher is a target for Liverpool this summer

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner could all leave Anfield this summer when their respective contracts expire, and manager Jurgen Klopp will therefore be on the lookout for reinforcements.

Gallagher, 23, is a graduate of Chelsea’s academy and has been used regularly this season.

The Englishman has previously spent time on loan at both West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace, but he has made 33 appearances across all competitions since returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

It is claimed that Liverpool are hoping to take advantage of Chelsea’s need to offload players this summer, although luring a player from a rival will always prove difficult.

Gallagher’s contract with Chelsea is set to run until 2025, but those in charge of The Blues are under pressure to sell players this summer following 12 months of significant recruitment.

Since taking charge of the club last summer, owner Todd Boehly has spent more than £500 million on 16 new signings, and must now sell some players in order to adhere to financial fair play restrictions.
