After a year to forget last season, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool look to be back to their best, recreating the brilliant form that saw them cruise to their first ever Premier League title two years ago.

The German was hampered by injuries to several of his most important players last term, and the Reds only secured Champions League football thanks to a scintillating end of season run of form.

This season, however, the Merseyside club look an altogether different prospect, having won four times and avoided defeat in their first seven league matches.

The return of Virgil van Dijk and impressive form of both Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota have ensured that the Reds are already well within the mix at the top of the table.

Despite his side’s impressive start to the new campaign, it appears that former Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp is still plotting a move for an unhappy La Liga star.

According to The Mirror, the Reds are considering a move for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

Asensio was an unused substitute against FC Sheriff, despite scoring a hat-trick in his previous game

The report suggests that the Spaniard is unhappy at his current club, having fallen out with manager Carlo Ancelotti, who deems him to be surplus to requirements.

The 25-year-old is apparently ‘pondering’ his future, believing that forcing his way back into the first team could prove to be too difficult.

Asensio could be a tempting option for Liverpool, with the midfielder having impressed ever since joining Los Blancos from Mallorca in 2015.

The Spain international has scored 40 goals and provided 22 assists in 200 games for the La Liga giants, and would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to the Reds’ midfield.

It is also reported that Real have alerted a number of clubs across Europe of Asensio’s current situation, suggesting that he could be sold as soon as January.

The report says that Liverpool, who held an interest in the player over the summer, have renewed their interest having heard about the player’s situation.
