Liverpool boss Arne Slot will hope that his side can continue their strong start to the season when they face Southampton later this month.

The Reds currently hold a five-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City, and Slot will hope to see his side maintain that advantage when they travel to the south coast after the international break.

Slot has made a hugely impressive start to his tenure at Anfield, winning 15 of his 17 games in charge so far.

Despite his side’s impressive start to the campaign, it appears that the Reds are eyeing a move for a US international.

According to CaughtOffside, the Merseyside club are interested in PSV Eindhoven striker Ricardo Pepi.

The striker has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League after impressing for MLS side FC Dallas, but he has since spent time in both Germany and the Netherlands.

Pepi is a target for Liverpool

Pepi, 21, joined PSV from German side Augsburg last year and has since scored 15 times in 55 games for the Eredivisie giants.

He has started the new season in particularly impressive form, netting six times in 11 Dutch top flight games so far.

The report claims that German sides Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also interested in Pepi, as well as Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid.

Clubs are said to have been put on alert about Pepi’s potential availability, with the American possibly available for as little as £20 million.

Liverpool’s interest in Pepi comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of talisman Mohamed Salah, who will soon enter into the final six months of his current contract with the club.

It appears that the Reds are therefore planning for Salah’s potential exit, although Pepi would also likely represent an upgrade on the inconsistent Darwin Nunez.
