Premier League champions Liverpool continued their summer of huge spending with the signing of forward Hugo Ekitike on Wednesday.

The Reds confirmed that they had agreed a deal to sign the Frenchman from Eintracht Frankfurt, subject to international clearance, with the striker having now joined up with his new teammates on their preseason tour of Hong Kong.

Arne Slot’s side have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer, with Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez also having joined the Premier League champions.

Now, though, it has emerged that the Merseyside outfit may still complete the huge signing of a Premier League forward.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool could still complete the signing of forward Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Swede for much of the summer, although they signed Ekitike after their approach for Isak was rejected by the Magpies.

Despite paying £79 million for the Frenchman, the report claims that Liverpool could still afford to sign Isak and are very much still interested in the Sweden international.

Isak, 25, is said to be open to the idea of a move to Anfield due to his frustrations at Newcastle’s lack of transfer activity so far this summer.

The forward is absent from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Singapore, with the North East giants citing a thigh injury as the reason.

Isak joined Newcastle from Spanish side Real Sociedad in 2022 and has since scored 62 goals in 109 games for the club across all competitions.

He is under contract at St. James’ Park until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but the report suggests that Liverpool could still attempt to lure the player to Merseyside in the coming weeks.
