Liverpool defeated Premier League rivals Arsenal 2-1 in their latest pre-season friendly on Thursday.

Arne Slot’s side beat Spanish side Real Betis 1-0 in their opening friendly of the summer last week, and the Reds got off to a strong start when Mohamed Salah put them ahead against the Gunners.

Fabio Carvalho doubled their lead, before Kai Havertz pulled one back for Arsenal before the break.

Neither side could find the back of the net in the second-half, meaning Liverpool held on for a second win of pre-season so far.

Off the pitch, though, it appears that one of Slot’s players is considering his future at the club.

As per The Telegraph, defender Joe Gomez is considering his future at Anfield after it emerged that he almost left the club as part of a swap deal for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon last month.

Gomez failed to make a single appearance for England at the Euros in Germany this summer

The England international – who didn’t make a single appearance for the Three Lions at the Euros this summer – has been a regular for the Reds over the past couple of seasons, but the report claims that Liverpool will allow him to leave this summer for the right price.

Liverpool had been interested in Newcastle star Gordon, formerly of Merseyside rivals Everton, and it is claimed that Gomez had been touted as part of a player-plus-cash deal for his England teammate.

Gomez, 27, joined the Reds from Football League side Charlton Athletic back in 2015 and has since played more than 220 times for his current side across all competitions.

The versatile defender can play as a central defender, at right-back or as a left-back.

Gomez is contracted to the Reds until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but the report suggests that he could depart Anfield before the end of the current transfer window, which shuts at the end of August.
