Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as confirmed that Joel Matip will miss Saturday’s Premier League match against Leicester City.

The centre-back has started the Reds’ last six Premier League matches alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the backline.

However, the 28-year-old missed the midweek 4-3 win over Red Bull Salzburg after picking up a knock in the 1-0 win at Sheffield United last weekend.

And despite being close to a return, Klopp told LiverpoolFC.com that the Cameroon international won’t be ready to take on the Foxes, along with longer-term absentees Xherdan Shaqiri and Nathaniel Clyne.

Matip in action against Chelsea earlier this season.

Joel looks good but is not ready for tomorrow, and Shaq not. And Clyney not,” said the German

That’s it pretty much. After the international break they are all back on track, apart from Clyney, but until then we have only one game and we have to play without them for that game.

The Merseyside club currently sit five points clear at the top of the table having won their opening seven matches.

But with Saturday’s opponents sitting seven points behind in third, Liverpool will be expecting to face a tough test at Anfield.
