Liverpool enter race for £68.5m Chelsea transfer target

Liverpool are interested in signing Sevilla star Jules Kounde, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has impressed in Spain since moving from Bordeaux in 2019, helping the club win the Europa League in 2020.

Kounde’s performances, which has resulted in him earning seven caps for France, have attracted interest from the Premier League.

Chelsea had a number of bids rejected in the summer (via Fabrizio Romano) as the European champions aimed to bring the versatile defender to Stamford Bridge.

However, El Nacional report that it could be Liverpool, not Chelsea, who land the highly-rated Frenchman.

It’s claimed that the Reds are prepared to meet Kounde’s £68.5m release clause in the January window.

Nat Phillips is reportedly set to depart Anfield and it seems as though Jurgen Klopp is chasing another defensive reinforcement.

Kounde, whose contract runs until 2024, has made 22 appearances for the La Liga outfit and has won the UEFA Nations League with France this season.
