Premier League leaders Liverpool return to action on Sunday when they face struggling Southampton.

Arne Slot’s side have enjoyed a fine start to the season, winning nine of their opening 11 Premier League games and also topping the Champions League table after four matches.

The Dutchman – who left Feyenoord to take charge at Anfield over the summer – will expect to see his side continue their strong start by beating Southampton at St. Mary’s.

In the meantime, though, it has emerged that the Reds are interested in a Serie A star.

As per Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport via TBR Football, the Merseyside outfit remain interested in Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram.

It is claimed that Liverpool were interested in the Frenchman during Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club, but their interest remains following Slot’s arrival at Anfield.

Thuram remains a target for Liverpool

Thuram, 27, joined Inter from German club Borussia Monchengladbach last summer and netted 15 times in his first season in Italy, as well as registering 14 assists.

He netted 13 league goals and provided the same number of assists as Inter won the top flight title in Italy last year.

In total, the France international has now played more than 60 times for Inter across all competitions.

The report suggests that Thuram, son of former France defender Lillian, is aware of the interest from Liverpool.

He is contracted to Inter until the end of the 2027/28 season, but the report claims that he has a close personal friendship with Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa, who joined the Reds over the summer.

Thuram is said to have a £71 million release clause included in his current deal, but it remains to be seen whether or not Liverpool will activate it.

As well as the Reds, Premier League rivals Arsenal are also said to be interested in the Frenchman, who has played 29 times for his country at senior level.
