Premier League leaders Liverpool will hope to return to winning ways when they host struggling Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Merseyside rivals Everton on Wednesday night.

Second-placed Arsenal have since cut Liverpool’s advantage to four points with a win over Leicester City, and Arne Slot will therefore be desperate to see his side get back on track and re-establish their seven point lead.

In the meantime, it appears that the Reds are eyeing a shock move for a defender from a Premier League rival.

According to Football Insider, the Merseyside giants are ‘very keen’ on Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven.

The 23-year-old joined Spurs from German side Wolfsburg in 2023 and has since impressed in North London.

Van de Ven has been hampered by injuries throughout his time in London

Despite his impressive performances, the Dutchman has also been hampered by injuries throughout his time in England and has therefore made just 41 appearances for the Lilywhites across all competitions.

The report claims that Liverpool want to sign a new central defender regardless of whether or not club captain Virgil Van Dijk departs Anfield this summer, when the Dutchman’s contract expires.

Those in charge of the club’s recruitment have therefore identified Van Dijk’s international teammate as a potential target, with the report claiming that figures at Anfield view Van de Ven as a ‘Champions League level’ player who could partner either Van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate.

Van de Ven is contracted to Spurs until the end of the 2028/29 campaign and it appears unlikely that the North London side would want to sell the defender any time soon, especially to a Premier League rival.
