Liverpool fans will be pleased to see the back of this season, with the Reds facing a trophyless season on the back of successive Champions League and Premier League triumphs

Liverpool are outsiders to qualify for the Champions League with both West Ham and Chelsea above them in the race to secure top spot with just five games remaining.

The Reds’ season could be made worse if Gini Wijnaldum, arguably their player of the season so far, completes his long awaited move to Barcelona when the season ends.

The Dutchman has been heavily linked with the Catalan giants and is expected to complete the move when the season ends in June.

Wijnaldum is expected to leave Liverpool when his contract expires this summer.

However, it appears that Jurgen Klopp’s side are already scouting potential replacements for the midfielder, with a fellow premier League star firmly on their radar.

According to The Daily Express, the Reds will pursue Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma this summer.

The report suggests that the club have already asked the Seagulls about the player’s personality and character, with chief executive Michael Edwards spearheading the pursuit of the 24-year-old.

Bissouma has impressed at the heart of Brighton’s midfield this season and had previously been linked with move to Arsenal and Tottenham, however it appears that Liverpool are also firmly in the race to sign the Mali international.

The midfielder has played all but two of Brighton’s Premier League games this term and his defensive capabilities have been crucial in moving the Seagulls towards safety.

Despite Liverpool’s interest, it is unlikely that Brighton would allow their star man to leave willingly and a substantial fee may well be required to persuade them to part company.
