He has a Premier League and a Champions League title to his name, yet guiding Liverpool to third position last season could be Jurgen Klopp’s greatest achievement as Liverpool manager.

The German saw nearly all of his central defenders wiped out as Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all suffered season-ending injuries which are still troubling them today.

Gomez would likely have been at the Euros were it not for a serious knee injury he suffered with the Three Lions back in November 2020 – the 24-year-old played no further part for England or for Liverpool after that.

While the sheer number of injuries and out of form players was pretty extreme last season, it appears Klopp has realised his squad needs extra refreshment if they are to compete for the biggest titles again.

And, get ready Liverpool fans, ESPN report Liverpool are currently at the front of the queue to sign French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe.

The 22-year-old is continuing to stall on a new contract at Paris Saint-Germain and while the French outfit have maintained he will not leave Les Parc des Princes for any price, they risk losing Mbappe upon the end of his contract next season.

Unless the former Monaco star puts pen to paper on an extension, his future in the capital is looking very uncertain.

If his situation does not improve, then Liverpool are reportedly at the front of the queue to sign the young striking sensation who would be a terrifying acquisition if he linked up with Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and co.

Watch this space as the signing of the decade could very well be upon us soon.
