Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Portugal Under-20 international star Diogo Leite, according to The Guardian.

The Premier League side, who face Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield on the final day of the 2017-18 top-flight campaign this Sunday, have been linked with luring the highly rated FC Porto defender to Merseyside this summer.

The 19-year-old, who has featured three times for Portugal’s Under-20 side, has made 27 appearances for Porto’s B team this season.

Centre-back Leite, who is also said to be a transfer target for Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City, is understood to have a release clause of €15m this summer.

Reports suggest The Gunners are prepared to cough up that sum of money for the defender’s signature, but that Anfield is Leite’s most likely destination in the off-season, with Liverpool building a healthy and attractive reputation of developing young players under manager Jurgen Klopp.
