Arne Slot will take charge of Liverpool at Anfield for the first time when his side host Brentford on Sunday.

The Reds overcame a surprisingly tricky first-half to run out 2-0 winners against Ipswich Town in their Premier League season opener on Saturday, with Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah on the scoresheet.

Slot will hope to see his side record a second successive victory, although the Bees will undoubtedly provide a stern test for the Merseyside outfit.

With just over a week until the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month, Liverpool are the only Premier League side that are yet to complete a transfer this summer.

This is despite a number of experienced players having departed Anfield since the end of last term.

Now, it has emerged that the club are saving in excess of £20 million annually following recent departures, according to Football Insider.

Thiago departed Liverpool at the end of last season

The report claims that the club have cut more than £20 million-per-year from their wage bill following the departures of players including Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip.

Midfielder Thiago – who has since announced his retirement from football – was said to be the club’s third-highest earner before leaving Anfield.

The Spain international was believed to be earning a staggering £200,000-per-week, bettered only by Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Matip, meanwhile, also departed the club when his £100,000-per-week contract expired earlier this summer, and veteran goalkeeper Adrian also departed after rejecting an offer of a new deal.

Since then, Fabio Carvalho has completed a £27.5 million move to fellow Premier League side Brentford, meaning that the Merseyside club have knocked around £20 million off of their annual wage bill since last term.
