Premier League leaders Liverpool will turn their attention to the Carabao Cup on Thursday when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg of their semi-final.

Arne Slot’s side maintained their six-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, but they must overcome a 1-0 deficit against Spurs if they are to progress to the Carabao Cup final.

The Reds are the current holders of the competition having beaten Chelsea in last season’s final, and Slot will see the cup as a prime opportunity to lift his first silverware as Liverpool boss.

Despite their superb season so far, Liverpool continue to face uncertainty surrounding the futures of three key players; namely Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah.

Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, while Salah has been a target for clubs in the Saudi Arabian Pro League.

Van Dijk’s future also remains uncertain, but it has now emerged that Liverpool are eyeing a move for a Premier League defender as a possible replacement for the Dutchman.

Murillo is being considered by Liverpool as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk

According to CaughtOffside, the Merseyside giants hold a ‘serious interest’ in Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo.

The 22-year-old joined Forest from Brazilian side Corinthians in 2023 and has since been something of a sensation at The City Ground.

He has established himself as a key part of Nuno Esperito Santo’s squad, making a total of 59 appearances for the club across all competitions since arriving in England.

The Brazilian recently signed contract extension that is set to run until 2029, but the report claims that the player himself would be open to a move to Anfield if the two clubs could reach an agreement.

It is also claimed that Forest are holding out for a fee of at least £80 million to allow the centre-back to depart.
