Liverpool’s hopes of completing a remarkable quadruple this season are over following their shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Plymouth Argyle.

The Reds arrived at the home of the Championship’s bottom club with eyes on four trophies, but Ryan Hardie’s second half penalty dumped Arne Slot’s side out of the competition.

Despite their exit, the Reds still sit top of the Premier League table, have reached the final of the Carabao Cup, and are also in the last 16 of the Champions League having finished top of the 36-team group phase table.

Slot will therefore be pleased with his side’s performance so far this term, although he will be frustrated at their FA Cup exit.

Off the pitch, it has emerged that the Merseyside outfit have been in talks over a deal to sign an experienced midfielder.

As per TBR Football, both Liverpool and rivals Manchester City have been in contact with Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.

Kimmich could leave Bayern this summer

The 30-year-old is in the final six months of his contract in Bavaria, and the report claims that both the Reds and the Citizens have made contact about a potential move for the player this summer.

The report claims that the midfielder is currently considering his options before deciding whether to commit to Bayern or explore a move elsewhere.

Kimmich joined Bayern from fellow German side Stuttgart in 2016 and has since played more than 420 games for the club across all competitions.

He has won no fewer than 20 trophies during his time in Munich, including eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

City boss Pep Guardiola briefly worked with Kimmich during his time with Bayern, and the report suggests that the Spaniard is keen on the ida of a reunion with the 97-time Germany international.
