Carabao Cup champions Liverpool return to action on Wednesday evening when they face Southampton in the FA Cup.

The fifth round tie takes place just days after the Reds defeated Chelsea at Wembley, courtesy of defender Virgil van Dijk’s header in the closing stages of extra-time.

Sunday’s triumph was Jurgen Klopp’s eighth trophy win of his time on Merseyside so far, but the German will be keen to add to his haul before departing Anfield this summer.

Liverpool remain in contention to win the FA Cup, Premier League and Europa League, completing a quadruple.

Off the pitch, it appears that those in charge of the club have already started planning for this summer.

As per Football Insider, the Merseyside club are plotting to sign a new right-back when the transfer window reopens.

Alexander-Arnold has increasingly been used in midfield for Liverpool

It is claimed that, if Klopp’s replacement opts to continue using Trent Alexander-Arnold in a midfield role, Liverpool will look to sign a new right-back.

The England international has amassed a total of 100 goals and assists in 302 games for the Reds across all competitions, proving himself as one of the best attacking full-backs in Europe.

Youngster Conor Bradley has emerged in the Reds’ first team in recent weeks and has played on the right of defence in the absence of the injured Alexander-Arnold.

The 20-year-old has provided three assists in four Premier League games, as well as scoring in a 4-1 wi against Chelsea last month.

The report also suggests that Liverpool are targeting central defensive reinforcements with Joel Matip set to leave the club when his contract expires this summer.

Last summer the club underwent a significant midfield overhaul, and it appears that they are planning to do the same thing to their backline this summer.
