Liverpool make the short trip to face Merseyside rivals Everton on Wednesday evening.

The Reds currently sit second in the Premier League table and remain firmly in the hunt for the title, which is now their final chance of silverware this term after exiting the Europa League last week.

Jurgen Klopp has already lifted the Carabao Cup in what will be his final season in charge at Anfield, but the German will be desperate to add a second Premier League title to his own personal trophy cabinet.

In the meantime, those in charge of the club are working hard to appoint Klopp’s successor.

According to Sky Sports, the Merseyside club are close to appointing Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as their new manager.

The report claims that the Premier League side have opened talks with their Dutch counterparts about the possibility of appointing Slot, 45.

Slot is one of the leading contenders to become the new Liverpool boss

It is claimed that Slot himself is keen on the idea of a move to Anfield, which could make an agreement relatively easy to reach.

Liverpool will have to pay around £9 million in compensation to lure the Dutchman from Rotterdam to Merseyside, the report says.

Slot took charge of Feyenoord in the summer of 2021 and, after finishing third in his first season in charge, guided the club to the Eredivisie title last season.

This season Feyenoord are set to miss out on the top flight title to PSV Eindhoven, but Slot did guide his side to the Dutch Cup earlier this month.

The manager’s current contract with Feyenoord is set to run until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, but Liverpool are hopeful that they can reach an agreement for him to succeed Klopp this summer.
