The transfer window officially opens in less than two weeks, with Premier League clubs set to once again be busy in the market.

January was uncharacteristically quiet for the clubs in the English top flight, but the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are once again set to be busy over the course of the next two months.

Liverpool are also likely to be active, with new manager Arne Slot looking to assemble his squad having succeeded Jurgen Klopp last month.

The Dutchman will likely want to assess his squad before making any significant decisions, but according to Football Insider the Merseyside club are keen to sign a new midfielder this summer.

The report claims that those in charge of the Reds’ recruitment are keen to sign a defensive midfielder to strengthen the core of Slot’s side.

Endo joined Liverpool from Stuttgart last summer for a reported fee of £16 million

This is despite the arrival of Wataru Endo from German side Stuttgart last summer, with the report claiming that the Japan international was only signed as a stop-gap.

Endo, 31, made 43 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions in his first season in England, starting 20 Premier League games.

Liverpool are now poised to make a marquee signing of a defensive midfielder, which will complete an overhaul of their midfield over the past two years.

Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara have all departed Anfield since last summer, while Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister are among those to have arrived on Merseyside.
