Liverpool will hope to overturn their 1-0 first leg disadvantage when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the second part of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Thursday night.

Lucas Bergvall’s late goal earned Spurs a 1-0 victory in the first leg last month, but the Premier League leaders will go into Thursday night’s game at Anfield as the favourites to reach the final and attempt to retain the trophy.

The Merseyside outfit defeated Chelsea in last year’s final, and the competition offers manager Arne Slot his first chance to lift silverware with his new club.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the Reds have been in contact with one of the Bundesliga’s biggest stars about a potential deal.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have been in contact with Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

The report claims that the Premier League leaders have recently been in contact with the player’s representatives as there is increasingly a feeling that the player will depart Bayern this summer.

Kimmich, 29, is set to be out of contract at the end of the current season, and the report suggests that it is increasingly likely that he will leave the club this summer.

Kimmich is a target for Liverpool

Liverpool are said to have contacted the player at the start of January and the Merseyside outfit are expected to be in touch again soon to tout the idea of a move later this year.

Kimmich joined Bayern from fellow German side Stuttgart in 2015 and has since played more than 420 times for the club across all competitions.

He has won no fewer than 20 trophies during his time in Bavaria, including eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

Liverpool are hoping to bolster Slot’s midfield options this summer and Kimmich has therefor emerged as a potential target as he may be available as a free agent.

It is claimed that Manchester City have also shown interest in the Germany international, while French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Spanish giants Real Madrid could also attempt to sign him.

While Bayern are set to once again try to persuade the player to sign a new deal at the club, the German giants are said to be ‘seriously worried’ that Kimmich may depart The Allianz Arena at the end of the current campaign.
