Liverpool continue their pursuit of the Europa League with a quarter-final first leg tie against Italian side Atalanta on Thursday.

The Reds lost ground in the race for the Premier League title on Sunday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s side missed the chance to move top of the table, but are level on points with leaders Arsenal.

Despite this, they remain one of the favourites to land the Europa League, alongside German side Bayer Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso’s side currently sit top of the Bundesliga table and are unbeaten across all competitions this term, but one of their most impressive performers has reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool.

According to Football Insider, the Merseyside cub are interested in Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong has been in fine form for Leverkusen this season

The 23-year-old has been one of the Bundesliga’s most impressive performers so far this season, helping Leverkusen to move to within three points of a first ever Bundesliga title.

In total, the Dutchman has played 36 times this season across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and registering 11 assists.

The report claims that a move for Frimpong, who has been capped twice by the Netherlands, could push right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield more permanently next term.

The Englishman has occasionally played in midfield under Klopp, but has primarily been required on the right side of defence.

If Liverpool did sign a right-back, the England international could move further forward, the report suggests.

Bakayoko’s current contract with Leverkusen is set to expire at the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but the player has a release clause set at £35 million which is set to become active this summer.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are also said to have shown an interest in the Dutchman.
