Premier League leaders Liverpool will look to extend their advantage at the top of the table to ten points when they visit Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot’s side re-established their seven-point advantage at the top of the standings with a 2-1 win over Wolves on Sunday, and the Dutchman will hope to see his team extend their lead at Villa Park on Wednesday.

The Reds will have the chance to win their first silverware of the season next month when they face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.

The Merseyside outfit are the current holders of the trophy having beaten Chelsea in last year’s final, and Slot will want to get his hands on his first piece of silverware in English football.

Off the pitch, it appears that Liverpool have their sights set on a Newcastle star.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes via GiveMeSport, Liverpool view Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon as a possible replacement for Luis Diaz.

The report claims that Colombian winger Diaz could depart Anfield this summer and, if he does, the Reds could move for Gordon, who they see as an ‘attractive option’ to replace him.

Gordon has previously been linked with a move to Liverpool

Gordon, 23, is from a family of Liverpool supporters but departed the Reds’ youth academy as a youngster and joined Merseyside rivals Everton.

He eventually forced his way into the senior side at Goodison Park, and went on to make 78 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions.

Gordon then joined the Magpies in 2023, and has since registered a combined 39 goals and assists in 95 matches for the North East giants across all competitions.

The report suggests that Liverpool are keen on Gordon due to his ability to play on either flank, however agreeing a deal with Newcastle will not be straightforward.

England international Gordon signed a new deal with Newcastle last year, and the Magpies have no intention of selling a player that has become an integral part of Eddie Howe’s side.
