Premier League sides will now have to wait until the new year to sign new players after the summer transfer window slammed shut on Monday night.

All 20 top flight sides were busy over the summer, with reigning champions Liverpool breaking the British transfer record to land forward Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

The Reds’ spending could exceed £450 million if certain add-ons are triggered, but it appears that the Merseyside outfit already have their sights set on another new defender.

As per CaughtOffside, Liverpool have joined rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Brentford defender Nathan Collins.

The report claims that the centre-back attracted significant interest during the summer window, although a move never materialised.

Collins, 24, worked with Spurs boss Thomas Frank during his time with the Bees, and the report suggests that the Lilywhites manager is keen for a reunion.

Having joined Brentford from Wolves in 2023, Collins has now made more than 80 appearances for the west London side across all competitions and is now the Bees’ captain.

It is claimed, though, that he is a target for both Spurs and Liverpool, with the former showing the most significant interest in the defender.

Collins is on the radar of Liverpool, who could be on the hunt for defensive reinforcements and have identified the Irishman as a potential target.

The Republic of Ireland international is under contract with Brentford until the end of the 2028/29 season, which puts the club in a commanding position during any potential negotiations.

According to the report, an offer in the region of £43 million would likely trigger Brentford to consider selling the centre-back, who has started all three of their Premier League matches so far this term.
