Liverpool have joined the Europe wide race to sign Santos midfielder, Thiago Maia in January, according to reports from ESPN.

The 19-year-old has attracted interest from Zenit St. Petersburg, Schalke, Napoli and Monaco but now it appears Jurgen Klopp wants in as well.

Santos have already reportedly snubbed offers from European sides, worth in the region of €12-18 million, however the financial power which Premier League clubs have behind them could see the Reds seal a deal.

The Brazil U23 international, who was part of the side which took gold at their home Olympics in Rio earlier this year, could follow in the footsteps of his fellow gold medallist, Gabriel Jesus, who will make the move to the Premier League when he joins Pep Guardiola and Man City in January.

The midfielder is known more for his defensive capabilities, an area which will concern Klopp more than his forward options, having had some defensive issues so far this term.
