New Liverpool manager Arne Slot will be working hard behind the scenes to prepare his squad for next season.

The Dutchman, who replaced Jurgen Klopp following the German’s departure at the end of last season, departed Dutch side Feyenoord to take up the role at Anfield.

Now, it appears that Slot is considering a move for one of his former players.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo via The Mirror, the Reds are set to battle it out with Premier League rivals Leicester City for the signing of Feyenoord’s David Hancko.

The 26-year-old has impressed in the Eredivisie of late, and his performances have attracted significant interest from elsewhere.

Hancko has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League and La Liga

As well as Liverpool and Leicester, the report claims that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have also shown interest in the Slovakia international.

Feyenoord are said to be demanding a fee in the region of £30 million for the centre-back, who is contracted to the club until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.

Since joining Feyenoord from Czech side Sparta Prague in the summer of 2022, Hancko has made 93 appearances across all competitions.

Both the Reds and the Foxes are said to have already been in contact with their Dutch counterparts about the possibility of securing a deal this summer.

Current Liverpool defender Joel Matip is set to leave Anfield when his contract expires at the end of this month, suggesting that Slot will be in the market for at least one new centre-back.
