Several Premier League players are in action over the weekend as the Nations League fixtures continue.

Italy face France in the pick of Friday night’s matches, before England travel to Dublin to face the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

Liverpool, like many top flight clubs, have a number of players on international duty during the current break, not only in Europe but also further afield.

Now, it has emerged that the Merseyside club are planning to offer one of their internationals a new deal.

As per Football Insider, the Reds are set to offer centre-back Virgil van Dijk a new contract.

The Dutchman recently entered into the final year of his current contract with Liverpool, and therefore faces an uncertain future at Anfield.

Van Dijk has just ten months remaining on his current contract

Van Dijk, 33, remains Liverpool’s captain and is an integral part of Arne Slot’s team, but he will currently be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club in January.

The report claims that Liverpool are keen to offer the Netherlands international a new deal, however the player himself will ultimately decide his future.

The centre-back joined the Reds from fellow Premier League side Southampton in January 2018 and has since enjoyed enormous success on Merseyside.

He has played no fewer than 273 times for the Reds across all competitions, and has won eight trophies including the Champions League and Premier League.

It is claimed that Liverpool will sit down for talks with the player before the end of the year, in a bid to figure out his thoughts on signing a new deal.

Van Dijk’s teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in the final year of their respective contracts, and those in charge of the club are said to be keen to tie all three players down to new deals.
