Premier League leaders Liverpool will hope to continue their perfect start to the season when they face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The defending champions have started the new season flawlessly, winning all five of their league matches so far.

Arne Slot’s side currently sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and the Dutchman will hope to see his side return from Selhurst Park with all three points.

In the meantime, it appears that Liverpool are the latest English side to show interest in a La Liga defender.

As per CaughtOffside, Liverpool are monitoring Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo with a view to potentially making a move to sign the defender.

It is claimed that the Premier League champions are keeping tabs on the Uruguayan, who is said to be considering his options.

The 26-year-old has made 180 appearances for the Spanish giants since joining from Uruguayan side Boston River back in 2018, but the report suggests that the La Liga side would be willing to sell the defender for a fee in the region of £43-52 million.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be monitoring the player’s situation, with Araujo’s current contract with Barcelona set to run until the end of the 2030/31 season.

Araujo has featured in four of Barcelona’s six La Liga games so far this term, as well as starting their victory over Newcastle United in the Champions League.

Liverpool’s interest in the Uruguayan comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of current Reds centre-back Ibrahima Konate.

The France international is in the final year of his current contract at Anfield and is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of England in January.
