Liverpool have rejected a bid by Southampton to take Mamadou Sakho on loan.
According to a report in the Daily Mail Liverpool won’t entertain any loan options as they look for a £20m permanent deal.
Southampton look certain to lose Jose Fonte during the transfer window and had hoped to bring in Sakho to partner Virgil van Dijk in defence.
Crystal Palace and Sevilla are also watching Sakho who has been frozen out of the picture at Anfield after a pre-season fall out with Jurgen Klopp.
It’s unlikely that Liverpool will receive a £20m bid for Sakho this month with a loan to a European side the most likely option.
Liverpool paid Paris St Germain £18m for the defender in 2013 but after less than 100 appearances his Anfield career is over but it remains to be seen whether anyone will pay £20m or allow the saga to drag on until the summer.
