Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Turkey international defender Caner Erkin this summer, according to the Metro.

The Premier League side, who currently sit seventh in the league standings after three wins on the bounce against Aston Villa, Manchester City and Crystal Palace respectively, are eager to seal a deal to sign the Fenerbahce left-back ahead of a long list of potential suitors.

The 27-year-old, who has 42 international caps for his country, has scored one goal and provided eight assists in 25 appearances in all competitions for the Turkish giants so far this season.

Erkin, who is also being pursued by fellow English top-flight rivals Arsenal and Manchester United, could be available for as little as £4.2m come the end of the current 2015-16 campaign.

The defender, who started his career in his homeland with Manisaspor, has found the back of the net 16 times in 211 games for Fenerbahce since arriving from CSKA Moscow back in 2010.
