Liverpool maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Saturday, but Jurgen Klopp’s side will have been frustrated not to have come away with all three points.

Thomas Tuchel’s side went ahead through Kai Havertz’ brilliant flicked header, before the hosts were awarded a penalty after Reece James was adjudged to have handled the ball on the line.

The Englishman was sent off, sparking outrage from his teammates and the Blues’ coaching staff.

Despite playing over half of the match against ten men, the Reds were unable to find a winner and were forced to settle for a draw.

Now, Klopp’s side are being linked with an audacious last-minute move for one of the stars of Euro 2020.

According to Italian outlet La Repubblica, the Reds are one of the leading candidates to sign Sampdoria’s Mikkel Damsgaard.

Damsgaard stepped up for the Danes at Euro 2020.

The report states that Liverpool, along with Leeds United, are both ‘eligible candidates’ to land the winger, who shone for Denmark at Euro 2020 this summer.

The youngster currently plies his trade for Serie A side Sampdoria, but has been regularly linked with a move away from the club this summer, with a host of Europe’s top clubs reportedly interested.

Damsgaard, 21, had previously been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, but it is believed that the Lilywhites are now out of the running.

Aston Villa are believed to be another side with an interest in the player, however they are considered to be behind the other two Premier League clubs in the race for the player.

The report suggests that a move for the player is expected from at least one club, with both Liverpool and Leeds quite conceivably making an offer before the deadline.
