Liverpool lost ground on Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title this weekend, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side fell behind at Anfield as Son Heung-Min put the visitors 1-0 up, before Luis Diaz rescued a point for the Reds.

The following day, City beat Newcastle 5-0 to move three points clear at the top of the table with just three matches remaining.

The next week will be pivotal for Klopp’s side, as they face Aston Villa on Tuesday and then play Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

Despite a disappointing weekend of results for Liverpool, it appears that there is some good news on the horizon.

According to Marca via Metro, the Reds have already beaten Chelsea off the pitch, in the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni.

Tchouameni, 22, has been in sensational form over the past 18 months and has since been linked with a number of Europe’s top clubs.

It appears that Liverpool are leading the way, though, with the report claiming that they are ahead of the Blues and Real Madrid in the race to land the midfielder.

The Frenchman is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the world, and would undoubtedly be a welcome addition to any squad in Europe.

Madrid will not be landing the France international this summer, though, as they have reportedly decided to defer their move for the player until next summer.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti is believed to be happy with the club’s current midfield options, namely Eduarda Camavinga, Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

The player himself has recently discussed his future, but revealed very little about his plans.

“I am contracted here until 2024 with the option until 2025. We’ll see what the future has in store for me,” he said.

“The transfer window is always a period where lots of things can happen.

‘There is my personal case, but there are cases for lots of other players who are out of contract or who perhaps have desires elsewhere.”

Tchouameni has made 48 appearances in all competitions for Monaco this season, and also made his debut for France in September last year.
