Liverpool will hope to return to winning ways when they face Southampton in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot’s side have drawn each of their past two Premier League matches – against Newcastle United and Fulham respectively – either side of a win over Girona in the Champions League group phase.

The Dutchman will hope to see his side cruise to victory on the south coast on Wednesday, against a Saints side that were beaten 5-0 by Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

The uncertain futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk continue to linger around Anfield, with all three players in the final year of their respective contracts.

Now, though, it has emerged that the Merseyside outfit have made an improved offer to one of the trio.

As per CaughtOffside, Liverpool have improved their offer to full-back Alexander-Arnold amid ongoing interest from Spanish side Real Madrid.

The England international has been of interest to the Spanish champions for some time now, and the report suggests that Real have scheduled a meeting for January as they look to reach an agreement to sign the defender next summer.

As his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, the 26-year-old is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club in January.

It is claimed that the Champions League holders have arranged a meeting with the player’s representatives, in an effort to speed up a potential deal for a player that has become one of their top transfer targets.

Alexander-Arnold is a product of the Reds’ youth academy and has already played more than 320 times across all competitions, scoring on 19 occasions and also providing 84 assists.

He remains an integral part of Slot’s side, and Liverpool are therefore said to have offered him an improved contract worth around £16 million-per-year.

The player himself is yet to make a decision on his future, the report claims.
