Liverpool kept the pressure up on Premier League leaders Arsenal with a 4-3 win over Fulham in an enthralling encounter on Sunday.

The Reds went ahead in the first half when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stunning free-kick hit the crossbar and bounced in after hitting goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Fulham then drew level through former Liverpool man Harry Wilson, before Alexis Mac Allister’s stunning strike – his first goal for the club – once again gave the hosts the lead.

Marco Silva’s side drew level once again, though, courtesy of Kenny Tete’s close range finish.

The second half was equally pulsating, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid putting the Cottagers ahead in the closing stages.

There was yet more drama to come, though, as late goals from Wataru Endo and Alexander-Arnold earned Jurgen Klopp’s side a remarkable comeback victory.

Matip is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after being injured against Fulham

One downside for the Reds was an injury sustained by defender Joal Matip, and those in charge of the club have now made a decision ahead of the January transfer window.

As per Football Insider, Liverpool will not look to sign defensive reinforcements when the transfer window reopens, despite Matip’s injury.

Speaking after the thrilling match at Anfield, Klopp admitted that the Cameroon international’s injury lay-off ‘will not be a short one’.

Matip, 32, joined Liverpool from German side Schalke in 2016 and has since made more than 200 appearances for his current side across all competitions.

The defender – who is set to be out of contract at the end of the current season – has suffered a number of significant injuries over the past few seasons.

At present, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, and Ibrahima Konate are Klopp’s primary options in central defence, however the report claims that an injury to any of the trio could force the Merseyside outfit to delve into the transfer market.
